Water4All 360° Water Experience Tour in Portugal
Deadline exteneded to 20th of june
We would like to announce the Water4All – 360° Water Experience Tour in Portugal, an initiative aimed to 2nd or 3rd year bachelor's degree students (BSc) in (process) engineering, environmental technology, natural and environmental science (e.g. biology, ecology, geology, chemistry). Students enrolled at universities located in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland are eligible.
This event is part of the European Partnership Water4All – Security for the Planet, a research funding programme in the water sector. Co-funded by the Horizon Europe programme, this partnership aims to address the challenges of climate change, contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and foster the EU’s competitiveness and growth.
The Water4All 360° Water Experience Tours are designed to inspire the next generation of water professionals by promoting engagement with sector experts and encouraging careers focused on water sustainability, in line with the Water4All Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). Participants will have a unique opportunity to explore technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions in the water sector.
The Water4All 360° Water Experience Tour in Portugal, organised by LNEC – National Laboratory for Civil Engineering and the University of Évora, will take place from 1 to 5 September 2025, under the theme “Urban Water Smartness in Lisbon & Regional Water Management in Alentejo”. Participation is free of charge, and applications are open until 20 June 2025.

14th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Water Reuse
We had the pleasure of participating in the 14th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Water Reuse in Cape Town, South Africa. This event brought together global experts to discuss innovative solutions for water reuse and resilience.
During the conference, we presented our latest findings:
- Maximilian Werner presented his work on comparing various reuse options based on the implemented technologies, including MBR, MBR combined with ozonation (HYFIVE project), and MBR integrated with reverse osmosis (RO).
- Stefan Panglisch discussed our ongoing project, MAMDIWAS, which focuses on the sustainable treatment of mining-influenced water in collaboration with our South African partners. This project aims to transform mining-influenced water into a valuable resource, improving water security and supporting local communities in South Africa.
- Maritn Futterlieb presented new approaches to integrating RO into potable reuse schemes—not only for water reuse but also for the recovery of valuable nutrients and energy.
Additionally, we participated in insightful excursions to a wastewater treatment plant and a waterworks facility that is currently undergoing upgrades for future potable reuse.
The conference was an inspiring platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, reinforcing the importance of innovative water management solutions. We are excited to continue contributing to sustainable water reuse practices! 🌍💧
The chair is part of the IEUV Institute for Energy and Environmental Process Engineering.
Our themes of interest in research and teaching are linked to the global water crisis and its resulting challenges. The key competences in research are membrane filtration and adsorption. We employ our competences to investigate 3 research fields: Exploitation of contaminated water resources, process optimization/simulation and circular economy.
The ongoing technological development calls for skilled engineers capable to operate in a responsible way within the field of water economy which becomes more complex every day. For this reason, we created in 2008 the international ISE master study program “Management and Technology of Water and Waste Water MTW³ “. Since then we supervised students from 28 countries and prepared them to their tasks as water specialists. In 2015 the student group AquaSmarTech was founded which helps to connect students and answers to numerous questions within the study program and also abroad.
We cooperate closely with the IWW Water Centre and the ZWU Centre for Water and Environmental Research. Furthermore, a wide network of industrial partners enables students to experience practical application of their knowledge during a practical work, bachelor or master thesis.
